Why is the Unique Belize Label Significant?
Our label allows potential buyers the opportunity to immediately recognize that the particular artwork was created by a Belizean, it is of original design and the piece is authenticated by the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH). These points offer the buyer a security that they are purchasing a quality piece and allow the Artisan to competitively price their product in line with market standards.
The Unique Belize label creates a united front between artisans and regulatory bodies to ensure that sale of these works provides direct economic benefits to these artisans and their communities.
What are the objectives of the Program?
The objectives of the program are:
- To improve economic opportunities in rural communities and contribute to the reduction of poverty;
- To enhance the tourism experience through improvements in tourism infrastructure and services at selected sites.
We seek to help Belizean artisans working at or near to nine archaeological sites in the country to promote their work in the local and international marketplace and to help consumers to identify and purchase authentic Belizean artwork. Pieces are certified under our two-tier system:
- Designed and produced by a Belizean
- Made by hand from indigenous raw material
- Distributed by the artisan or sold directly by them
- Industrially reproduced
- Made by hand with material industrially produced (plastics beads, recycled material or reuse of industrially produced materials)
- Distributed or sold by a third party with approval of the artisan
What are the benefits of tying my product/name to the Unique Belize label?
Customers seeking to purchase authentic Belizean artwork will be able to easily see the authenticity label and make an informed decision about their purchase. They will also be able to use their phone to scan the QR code that links to more information about the artisan who created the piece.
You will be given a starter package to include labels and business cards to help promote your product under the Unique Belize brand. Artists benefit directly from being a part of the Unique Belize brand, as the authenticity labeling system assists the artist in concluding fair contracts and agreements, with market-standard rates. The local economy of the artisan, their family and communities benefit directly from the local spending throughout the sale process.
The website provides the platform for worldwide public access with the opportunity for Artisans to create rewarding business connections with international wholesalers and retailers. The public will have access to our website to view the work of the Artisans along with a biographical overview.

Are any other opportunities available to me as an artisan once I become a part of Unique Belize?

Is there a fee to register as an artisan or retailer?
There is no fee to register as an artisan with Unique Belize.
What are the benefits to me as a retailer with selling the Unique Belize brand?
When a customer sees the Unique Belize label, it offers potential buyers the opportunity to immediately recognize that the particular artwork was created by a Belizean, it is of original design and the piece is authenticated by the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH). These points offer the buyer a security that they are purchasing a quality piece and that it is in accordance with world market standards.
As a retailer, you also have the flexibility to choose exactly which product(s) you want to sell. You are able to order products that your buyers have a genuine interest in rather than being forced to order in bulk and be left with items that never move off the shelves. This gives you the power to know your product thoroughly and make an informed sale.
You are also able to provide additional value to your customers by requesting that an artisan provide a product-making demonstration to help promote the sale of a specific craft item which entices the customer to buy directly from you.
